The BL40R is an improved and stripped down version of mid-1960's black panel style American tone. With its 40 watts of power, it strikes the perfect balance between volume and versatility. This amplifier produces a smooth and dynamic sound characterized by sparkling cleans. BUT unique to the Judge BL lineup, you can achieve a warm scooped midrange when the mid is turned down and a dirtier, flatter, more "tweed" sound with the mid control is turned up. The BL line has a touch of fat tube-driven breakup when pushed. The built-in tube driven reverb adds depth and character, providing lush ambiance, from a little to a lot.
